International Chamber Artists (ICA) is pleased to announce its 2017-18 concert series. The events survey a wide range of chamber works, including classic chamber masterpieces, contemporary American composers, a special family concert, and a world premiere commission.

All ICA concerts are free, with a recommended $15 donation to support the non-profit organization and continue brining chamber music to our community.

2019-20 Concert Series

We are proud to present our 2019-20 concert series. The season surveys a wide range of chamber works, including classic chamber masterpieces, contemporary American composers, a special family concert, and a world premiere commission.

Following each ICA concert at St. Gregory's, audience members are invited to mingle and join the performers at a buffet dinner hosted by Ranalli’s of Andersonville (1512 W. Berwyn, Chicago). The meal is $15 per person, including soft drinks and gratuity.

The violist Youming Chen takes the spotlight in ICA’s 2019–20 season opener, with diverse musical offerings including a little Beethovenian night music, diaphanous French sonorities, Hungarian serenades, and some good old-fashioned American “tree shredding.” You won’t want to miss it!

Sergei Taneyev – Quintet for Piano and Strings (42’) 
Ludwig van Beethoven – Sonata in G Major for Violin and Piano, Op. 96 (30')

A French violinist provides the surprising nineteenth-century connection to Russia in a stunning violin sonata by Beethoven, while the Russian legend Taneyev brilliantly combines virtuosity with architectonics in his Quintet for Piano and Strings.

COMPOSE YOURSELF – FAMILY CONCERT

This program features an exciting piece by Chicago composer James M. Stephenson. Compose Yourself is a fast-paced, colorful way to get to know the musical instruments. Part of the program involves the audience composing a piece that the chamber ensemble then performs. This concert is appropriate for family members of all ages.

Come and hear how Renaissance folks learned how to let loose at a dance party in an updated and lively brass arrangement, followed by an equally colorful arrangement of a Bach prelude and fugue, and then settle in for one of Beethoven’s masterpieces: his celebrated “Archduke” piano trio.

This concert is a musical potpourri of offerings, from a legendary Czech lament based upon an epic poem, to a Beethoven quintet that pays homage to Mozart, to three songs based on the poetry of e.e. cummings, to the stunning and hauntingly beautiful conclusion in one of Strauss’s last works about the end of days.

Evocative pictures come to life in this concert in the form of music inspired by art and the outdoors. Opening with music inspired by Georgia O’Keeffe, the ICA musicians will then transport you to Beethoven’s sound depictions of the nineteenth-century hunt and the fanfare, dramatically concluding in a new brass arrangement of a time-honored exposition from Mussorgsky.
